Don's Birthday Surprise!

For Don's Birthday I decided to take on the daunting task of giving him his

garage and workbench all clean, organized and able to actually use it to work in and park the cars in.

Wow! What a task. We have been here going on two years and we have never been able to park our vehicles in it.

By the time Don gets home from work, takes his daily nap, eats dinner, does his chores, pool, yard etc, runs any errands he needs to do, and do his exercising, its bed time.

Then the weekends, we don't do anything unless its something fun. That's his time. So he just has not had time to really get the garage the way it should be.

Here's how his surprise went.

I kicked him out of the garage until I told him he could come back in. I suggested he remove anything he might need from the garage.

I left to run an errand and asked him to please move his motorcycle out of the garage so it wouldn't be in my way. I told him I was going to make him something for his birthday.

When I came home I found he had moved the motorcycle

into the library!!!! LOL
I wonder if he thought I wouldn't see it way down there. lol

This is a picture of the garage after I took out a full van load of stuff.
Wasn't sure where to even start so started in one corner and worked my way across.

Decided to clear the bottom out all the way across first.

Then I emptied the second shelf all the way across. Wow! There's a pegboard back there.

Next came the third shelf. Wow!!!
Now what to do with all this stuff!

I had already gone and gotten a bunch of containers to put stuff in so I started sorting and trying to make sense of it all. It really didn't take me near as long as I thought it was going to.

Feeling a little overwhelmed with all the stuff , I decided to start in on his tool box.
I emptied it out, washed it down, wow, how does a tool box get so dirty. After washing
and drying it, I put in drawer covers to keep his tools rustproof.

Still not sure where to start on all the stuff, lol, I decided to open up his new tool box and
screw the casters on the bottom.

Next I sorted out all his tools and put them in different containers. All screwdrivers in one, all hammers in another and so on. Why anyone would need that many screwdrivers, wrenches or sockets, omg! the sockets. Really!

Next came the task of separating and giving a new home to all the screws, nails, etc.
I brought him several of these containers that you can see through the tops so he can
know what he has. A couple of them are even two sided. Pretty  cool but quite an undertaking.

I must say I am very happy with the final results.

Don came home and loved it. He said it was the best birthday present he had ever received.
I guess it was worth all the effort after all.

We were going to Lake Charles to the casino

and to float around the lazy river for three days and he said he would be ok with just staying home and working in his garage.

WOW!!!

Going to Lake Charles was his idea. Thats what he wanted to do for his birthday.
We did end up going but he only wanted to stay 2 days instead of three. He was
anxious to get home and get in the garage. Believe that. I think he likes his new area to work in.
And the fact that we have never been able to

park the cars in the garage, and now we can is
AWESOME!!!!!

Oh, I did ask Don why he needed so many screwdrivers, sockets, wrenches and so on.

His response: Why do you need so many spatulas, forks and pans??

Ok, now I understand!!!
I GET IT!!!!

As soon as we got back to town he stopped and brought him a tool shed to put out back to get the rakes, shovels etc out of the garage.

He put it together in the gallery. I don't know what we would do without it. We do everything in there. It was too hot out in the garage to put it together. It was 105 today. Nasty!!

He also is going to build another work bench that will be a little taller  for him. He got the stuff he needed to build that also. He is building that tomorrow.

He brought fluorescent lights to put above the tool chest and above the pegboard area.

We are also going to redo the floor while it is empty and paint the walls. I think he is excited about it. YEAH!!!!
